Senior Civil Engineer & Managing Director

Ben is the founder of Vision Consulting Engineers Ltd. and a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand (FEngNZ) as well as a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng). His expertise spans project management, civil, environmental & geotechnical engineering, with a strong focus on stormwater and critical infrastructure. He has led hundreds of landslip investigations and remediation projects for clients including the Earthquake Commission, councils, and insurers. Ben champions a collaborative, values-driven approach — guided by integrity, creativity, and a commitment to Northland’s sustainable development.
Dan Simmonds
Senior Geotechnical Engineer
MIEAust CPEng, CMEngNZ

Dan has more than 20 years of experience in geotechnical projects spanning Australia, New Zealand & Singapore. His extensive expertise includes desktop studies, site investigations, geotechnical factual and interpretive reporting, slope stability analysis, settlement analysis, retaining wall design, foundation design & liquefaction assessments. Dan also possesses significant experience in landslip investigations, construction supervision & subcontractor management. He has been involved in projects from initial site assessments through to detailed design & construction, providing key engineering skills and practical insight to design development.
Jonathan Cousins
Senior Hydrological Engineer, MEng (Civil)

Jonathan has over 15 years of experience in hydrology, ecohydrology & environmental engineering across New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. He specialises in flood risk modelling, Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) & the restoration of wetlands, peatlands & floodplains. Skilled in GIS-based spatial analysis & hydraulic modelling (HEC-RAS, XP SWMM), he works closely with iwi, councils, & communities to develop grounded, culturally aligned restoration strategies. His work combines technical precision with local values, promoting sustainable land and water management through collaboration, transparency, and nature-aligned design.
Michelle Thorburn
Office Manager

Michelle is the central administrative & support hub for the entire office. She is the primary point of contact for all clients & new employees during their onboarding process, facilitating their integration. Michelle also serves as the trusted custodian of official company documentation & internal processes, including the administrative management of building consents, Certificates of Acceptance (COAs), and Code of Compliance Certificates (CCCs), supporting operational stability & clear communication. Her role encompasses essential HR administrative duties, reflecting her reliable, organised, & approachable professional traits.
Callum Smith
Intermediate Engineer, BEng(Hons)

Callum has demonstrated remarkable growth & dedication since joining as a Graduate Engineering Technician in 2020.
Having honed a robust skillset across structural, civil, and geotechnical design, as well as gaining project management experience, he is now diligently working towards becoming a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and transitioning into an Associate Engineer role. He consistently applies best practices to complex problems, & shares valuable insights with colleagues.
Harry Miller
Engineering Geologist, BSci (Geo)

Harry brings a meticulous & proactive approach to every project. He demonstrates exceptional adaptability, skills in advanced software & specialised testing. Harry possesses advanced geospatial analysis and cartography skills, leveraging GIS & LiDAR data for detailed geomorphological analyses and precise mapping for large landslide assessments. His technical acumen is matched by strong client and project management abilities, including extensive communication, responsiveness & proactive risk management.
Laura Molloy
Project Manager

Laura oversees initiatives across all engineering disciplines. Her remarkable journey within VISION began in administrative support roles, by now she has evolved into a multifaceted leader, seamlessly blending her meticulous organisational skills with strong project coordination & stakeholder management.
She excels at contributing to project success by planning, organising & executing tasks, fostering transparent communication, and proactively managing risks.
Siddesh Wagh
Graduate Engineer

Siddhesh is equipped with a Master's in Construction (Quantity Surveying) & a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering. He is proficient in AutoCAD, skilled in technical report preparation & experienced in fieldwork, including soil testing & hand-augered boreholes. Siddhesh supports project delivery through field investigations, data analysis, reporting, and assisting with design calculations across a range of systems. His strong communication abilities & proactive approach to learning drive his continuous development.
